What Does "Heavy-Duty", "Durable" and "Waterproof" Really Mean?

At Primus Seat Covers, we don’t just throw around terms like “heavy-duty” and “waterproof”—we put our seat covers to the test to make sure they truly live up to those standards. Alongside fit, the material is the most critical aspect of our seat covers, so we ensure every product meets rigorous quality benchmarks.

What Are Our Waterproof Seat Covers Made From?

Our tailored and universal seat covers are crafted from 600-denier polyester with a waterproof polyurethane backing (600D/PU). Hand-designed in the UK, we oversee the entire process to eliminate seams on critical areas, ensuring zero water leakage and minimizing friction damage. This material is very strong but also reasonably lightweight compared to some PVC backed material. This is because we use PU for the waterproofing, which is light but has excellent performance.

Once produced, our covers undergo independent testing to prove their performance, including:

Material and Waterproofing

  • Waterproofing Standard: Hydrostatic head rating of over 1,000 mm (BS EN ISO 105-E01:2013).
  • Oil Repellence: Grade 5.5 (BS EN ISO 14419:2010).

Strength and Durability

  • Tear Strength: 9kg using Falling Pendulum Apparatus (BS EN ISO 13937-1:2000).
  • Seam Strength: 17.6kg STB (BS EN ISO 13935 Part 2:2014).
  • Abrasion Resistance: Withstands over 100,000 rubs at 9kPa pressure (BS EN ISO 12947-1 & 2:1999 & 2016).

Colour Fastness

  • To Water: 4-5 (BS EN ISO 105-E01:2013).
  • To Washing: 4-5 at 40°C (BS EN ISO 105-C06:2010).
  • To Light: 6+ (BS EN ISO 105-B02:2014).

Additional Features

Our covers are washing machine safe, highly resistant to oil, and designed for long-lasting performance under tough conditions.
